Ghazipur – A coordinated operation by the district’s SWAT team and Kotwali police resulted in the detention of three local residents accused of transporting a sizable consignment of illicit weapons into the city.

Large‑Scale Arms Confiscation

The raid took place close to Kaithwalia Pulia, where law‑enforcement officials uncovered a cache containing 38 firearms: 19 pistols, 19 country‑manufactured rifles and 18 cartridges. Officers also recovered three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a modest amount of cash totalling ₹900.

Suspects Cornered During Escape Attempt

Following a tip received on Thursday night about an imminent weapons drop, SWAT commander Shailendra Pratap Singh and Crime Inspector Devendra Kumar Mishra sealed off the area. When the three men, riding a motorcycle, sensed they were being monitored, they attempted to flee. The rapid‑response unit had already surrounded the location, compelling the suspects to surrender without any violence.

Additional Leads and Ongoing Operations

All three detainees are residents of Ghazipur and are believed to be part of an interstate trafficking network that sources arms from Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Interrogations revealed the existence of two more accomplices. Police raids are currently underway in adjacent localities to locate the remaining members and dismantle the larger smuggling ring.

The arrests form a key element of a district‑wide crackdown on illegal weapons, directed by the police chief, aimed at halting the flow of unregistered firearms across state borders.
