Kotdwar – A post shared on social media ignited a clash between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local businessman Sanjeev Tank. Footage from a nearby CCTV camera shows the dispute swiftly moving from heated words to pushing and shoving.
Traders Rally at Kotwali
When the video went viral, a sizable group of traders and laborers affiliated with the BJP assembled outside the Kotdwar Kotwali. The crowd raised slogans and pressed the authorities for prompt action against the alleged aggressor.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To prevent the situation from spiralling further, police officials placed Deepak Kumar under preventive detention. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur clarified that the arrest was made after a formal complaint was filed by Sanjeev Tank.
According to the ASP, Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court as part of the regular legal procedure, and no individual will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.

Police officials warned that anyone attempting to disrupt public order or engage in unlawful conduct will be dealt with firmly under existing statutes.
