Dehradun: A daylight incident in the Nalapani Chowk neighbourhood of Uttarakhand’s capital has drawn sharp attention after a video of an alleged attempt to pull a woman into a moving car went viral on social media. The Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission, acting suo motu, has taken up the case and demanded a rigorous police response.
What transpired
According to eyewitness accounts, the episode unfolded on a Wednesday morning. A local woman, returning home on her scooter after seeing her daughter board a college bus, was trailed by a black vehicle whose occupants wore masks. The suspects allegedly tried to force the woman into the car.
Immediate resistance and civilian aid
The woman fought back, managing to evade the assailants. Nearby female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation witnessed the struggle, rushed to the scene, and confronted the perpetrators, prompting them to flee.
Commission’s reaction
Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal immediately contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. She learned that a case has been lodged at Raipur police station under the appropriate sections and that an investigation is underway.
Police response
Three special investigation teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the accused. Authorities are scrutinising CCTV footage from the immediate vicinity and surrounding streets to identify the masked individuals and the vehicle involved.
Chairperson’s directives
Kandwal urged the police to pursue every possible lead – be it a personal dispute, old rivalry, or a broader criminal conspiracy. She praised the victim’s bravery and the swift intervention of the sanitation workers, and insisted that the investigation be thorough, transparent, and concluded with decisive legal action.

The Women’s Commission has pledged to keep close tabs on the progress of the probe, emphasizing that any act that instills fear among women must be met with the full force of the law.
