Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today commissioned a fleet of 87 interceptor vehicles at Lok Bhavan, signaling a decisive step toward a technology‑driven police force in Uttar Pradesh. The blend of four‑wheel and two‑wheel machines will sharpen traffic monitoring, reinforce road‑safety protocols and amplify enforcement capabilities across the state.
Reimagining Policing for the Future
Addressing a gathering of senior officials, media representatives and police personnel, the CM traced the evolution of law‑and‑order strategies since his 2017 mandate. He stressed that the police commissionerate model demands meticulous planning, visionary leadership and cutting‑edge equipment to safeguard a thriving civic environment.
Feature‑Rich Interceptor Fleet
The newly‑deployed interceptors are fitted with state‑of‑the‑art surveillance suites, GPS‑based tracking and real‑time communication links. They will patrol high‑traffic corridors, congested junctions and other vulnerable hotspots, feeding live data to Integrated Command and Control Centres.
Adityanath also linked the rollout to the broader Safe City initiative, noting that operational command hubs in multiple districts are already enhancing both preventive patrols and investigative efforts.
Celebrating Valor and Service
The ceremony included a medal presentation to officers who have shown exemplary courage. Posthumously, the late STF Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh was awarded the Kirti Chakra for his heroic sacrifice, with his family receiving the honor on his behalf.
In addition, the event marked the launch of former DGP Prakash Singh’s memoir Sangharsh, a candid narrative that chronicles decades of police reforms and frontline experiences.
Road‑Safety Remains Paramount
Highlighting the persistent challenge of traffic fatalities, the chief minister affirmed that technology‑enabled enforcement, coupled with vigilant oversight, is essential to curb deaths on the road. The 87 interceptors form a cornerstone of Uttar Pradesh’s comprehensive strategy to modernise traffic management and protect commuters.
“Our goal is to blend the timeless bravery of our police with the precision of digital tools, setting a new benchmark for contemporary law enforcement,” the CM declared.
Through these coordinated initiatives, Uttar Pradesh aims to emerge as a model for modern policing, where traditional courage meets digital accuracy.
