Early Wednesday morning, four promising cricketers from Deoria lost their lives when the vehicle they were travelling in slammed into the rear of a truck on the Purvanchal Expressway. The team had just competed in a tennis‑ball cricket event in Lucknow and was heading back home.
Identities of the Victims
The deceased have been identified as:
- Nityanand Prajapati, 26, resident of Bagha village (Mayil police jurisdiction)
- Irfan (alias Raj), native of Ballia Uttar
- Aniket Singh, of Churia village (Lar police jurisdiction)
- Anand Yadav, hailing from Kohra village
All four were active participants in the local cricket circuit and had traveled together to showcase their skills at the Lucknow tournament.
