Dehradun – The Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026 was officially kicked off on Tuesday at Graphic Era University, aiming to craft technology‑driven answers to the state’s unique geographic and social hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology and Biotechnology, and saw the participation of roughly 500 students, professors, teachers, technical specialists and budding innovators.
Purpose and Scope of the 90‑Day Challenge
This three‑month initiative seeks to translate youthful energy and technical know‑how into real‑world solutions for Uttarakhand. Participants will concentrate on a spectrum of priority sectors, including disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd control, affordable health services, environmental stewardship, wildlife protection, tourism promotion, and transparent governance.
Technology Pillars
Proposed solutions will leverage artificial intelligence, data analytics, geographic information systems (GIS) and drone technology to enhance public service delivery. Key focus areas comprise AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enabled GIS mapping, environmental impact modelling, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and aerial monitoring through drones.
Minister Pradeep Batra emphasized that Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions possess the creative capacity to devise innovative fixes for the state’s distinct challenges. He urged participants to channel technology and ingenuity toward genuine citizen problems.
Hackathon Roadmap
The competition will progress through distinct phases: problem identification, idea generation, prototype building, mentorship by domain experts, and final evaluation. Winning concepts will be nurtured further via pilot testing, incubation programmes and industry partnerships.
Targeted Outcomes
Specific objectives include forecasting traffic loads during peak pilgrim and tourist seasons, monitoring ecological stress, pinpointing disaster‑prone zones, and bolst‑ering emergency response capabilities. The hackathon will also explore tech‑enabled pathways to deliver government services in remote mountainous villages.
Organisers and Vision
The event is organised by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA), in collaboration with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a host of institutional and ecosystem partners. Its overarching goal is to nurture home‑grown technological remedies for Uttarakhand’s challenges by fostering synergy among educational bodies, government departments, the tech community and young innovators.
