A Dedicated Outreach to Re‑Include Omitted Electors

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) concluded, the Uttar Pradesh election apparatus has launched a focused outreach programme aimed at locating citizens whose names were unintentionally left out of the freshly updated electoral roll.

Matching Pre‑SIR and Current Registers

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are now canvassing neighborhoods, comparing the pre‑SIR list with today’s roll. Anyone who appeared on the older list but is missing now will be contacted, their details verified, and guided to file Form 6 for inclusion.

First‑Time Voters Get Special Attention

The drive also zeroes in on young adults turning 18 for the first time. Each BLO has been assigned roughly 20‑25 new‑eligible voters per week, with a goal of completing this segment within a month.

To simplify registration for marginalised groups, temporary camps will be set up at the booth level. Special provisions are being made for residents of night shelters, labour colonies, the homeless, and other vulnerable sections. Awareness activities will be coordinated through schools, local NGOs and the SVEEP initiative.

Layered Monitoring for Full Transparency

The Chief Electoral Officer has directed district officials and registration officers to track progress continuously. Reports will be collated at state, district and booth tiers, with a strict one‑month deadline for completing household‑level verification.

Why This Initiative Is Crucial

The Election Commission has instructed states that have wrapped up the SIR to undertake corrective measures, ensuring that every eligible voter—whether previously missed or newly eligible—gets the chance to be registered.
