Tanakpur, Uttarakhand – A resident filed a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station in Champawat district, asserting that a man had masqueraded as a Hindu, cultivated a friendship with her, and later attempted to compel her to embrace Islam and marry him. The police acted swiftly, registering a case and taking the accused into custody.

The complainant maintains that the accused initially presented himself as a Hindu while building a rapport. As the relationship deepened, she discovered his actual religious affiliation. Upon learning that he was Muslim, she says he began urging her to convert to Islam and to become his wife.
She also alleges that the man threatened to leak her photographs on social media if she rejected his demands, adding intimidation to the alleged coercion.
