Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has uncovered a covert weapons‑smuggling operation centred in Gorakhpur, seizing a cache of firearms and ammunition while detaining a pivotal figure in the ring.
Detention of the alleged intermediary
Police identified the arrested individual as Ramesh Dutt Tripathi, who is also known by the aliases Bolbam, Abhishek Pandit and Chhotu. He hails from Vinayak Nagar in the Yamunanagar neighbourhood, which falls under the jurisdiction of Naini police station, Prayagraj. STF personnel intercepted him in the Siktaur area while he was reportedly awaiting a meeting with a contact.
Materials recovered
The raid yielded multiple firearms, a substantial stock of ammunition, and the suspect’s mobile device. All items have been placed under police custody as investigators trace their origin and intended destinations.
Broader investigation in motion
Initial questioning suggested links that extend beyond Uttar Pradesh’s borders. The STF is now scrutinising Tripathi’s alleged associates, including a person named Rajeev Yadav, to map the full scale of the network.
Authorities are also examining whether similar weapon consignments have previously entered Gorakhpur or adjacent districts, and whether additional operatives were involved.
Legal actions taken
CO Cantt Arun Kumar S. confirmed that a formal case has been filed against Tripathi under the Arms Act. Further judicial steps will hinge on evidence uncovered during interrogation and the ongoing inquiry.
Next phases
The STF continues to verify the provenance of the seized weapons and to identify potential end‑users. Officials cautioned that more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
