Verdict Delivered in the Amit Kashyap Murder Case

On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut’s District Court No. 12 handed down a guilty verdict against Ravita, the surviving spouse of the late Amit Kashyap, and her purported paramour Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted from the lock‑up under heavy security to hear the judgment.

How the Crime Unfolded

The tragedy traces back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap’s lifeless body was discovered inside his house in the Bahsuma police‑station area of Akbarpur Sadat village. The prosecution alleges that Ravita and Amardeep plotted the killing.

Prosecution’s Version: A Staged Snakebite

According to the state’s case file, Ravita allegedly restrained her husband while Amardeep administered a lethal chokehold. Investigators quickly ruled out any accidental death, treating the incident as a pre‑meditated murder.

A striking element of the theory was the attempt to disguise the homicide as a snakebite. After the killing, a live snake was allegedly placed beside the corpse to mislead forensic experts.

The first person to notice something was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who found his father unresponsive the next morning. Relatives arrived, spotted a snake near the body, and confined the reptile in a container.

Subsequent autopsy reports contradicted the snakebite hypothesis, prompting police to shift the investigation and eventually arrest Ravita and Amardeep.

Key Witnesses Who Shaped the Trial

The prosecution called twelve witnesses. Among them, Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu testified that they saw Amardeep entering the house on the night of the murder.

A local snake‑charmer also appeared on the stand, identifying Amardeep as the source of the snake that had supposedly been “borrowed” for a religious program. This testimony reinforced the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.

Defense’s Counter‑Argument

Ravita chose not to call any witnesses in her defense. In contrast, Amardeep’s uncle attempted to create an alibi, stating that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence on the day in question.

Verdict, Reactions & Next Steps

After weighing the evidence, the court found both Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder, bringing the trial phase to a close. Amit’s mother, Munesh, urged the judges to impose a stringent punishment. The sentencing hearing is slated for 16 October.

"Justice must be swift and decisive," Munesh said outside the courtroom, echoing the community’s demand for a harsh penalty.
