Body discovered inside a parked vehicle
Authorities received a tip about a dead man inside a car parked in Friends Colony, near the Jamuna Palace complex. When officers from the Rajiv Nagar police station reached the location, they found the victim with a gunshot wound and secured a pistol from the scene.
Identity of the deceased
The individual was identified as Alok Kumar, a retired engineer who had risen to the position of General Manager at Coal India. Born in Motihari, Kumar had settled in Ranchi after retirement and was registered as a resident of the Indira Nagar police‑station area, Gonda, close to Kanke Road.
Family says he was in Patna to visit his sister
Kumar’s brother‑in‑law, Vinod Kumar, lives in Flat 302, F‑Block of Vidya Vihar Apartments, the same neighbourhood where the car was found. According to Vinod, Alok arrived in Patna about two nights earlier, having previously visited the city roughly fifteen days before that. He had travelled to meet his sister, who resides nearby. Kumar’s wife had passed away earlier, and his son lives outside Patna.
On the morning of the discovery, Kumar reportedly set out for his usual walk. He never returned, and his body was later located inside the parked car beneath Jamuna Palace.
Police secure the scene and call in forensic experts
Following the grim find, officers cordoned off the area and began gathering physical evidence. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was dispatched to document the scene, collect the recovered firearm and process any biological traces.
Investigators review CCTV and interview contacts
Authorities are scrutinising footage from surveillance cameras installed around Friends Colony to reconstruct Kumar’s movements from his arrival to the moment the vehicle was left unattended. They are also interviewing relatives, neighbours and anyone who may have interacted with him in the days leading up to his death.
Cause of death remains under investigation
At this stage, police are treating the case as an open inquiry, weighing the possibilities of suicide against potential foul play. The final determination will hinge on the post‑mortem report, forensic analysis of the pistol and ballistics, and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing investigation.
