Statewide Home Guard Deployment for Durga Puja 2026
In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, the Jharkhand police have launched an extensive security operation. From 14 October to 23 October 2026, a total of 6,750 home guards will be positioned at pandals, major traffic junctions and other high‑footfall locations throughout the state.
Final Touches in Ranchi and Other Districts
As the celebrations approach, municipal authorities in Ranchi and across Jharkhand are completing pandal decorations and crowd‑control infrastructure. Anticipating a large influx of devotees, senior police and administrative officials have approved additional security layers to deter any untoward incidents.
Command Orders and Inter‑Agency Coordination
The Directorate of Home Guards and Fire Services, headed by the Director General‑cum‑Inspector General, has issued detailed directives to every district commander. The memo instructs commanders to keep the prescribed number of home guards on standby, ready for rapid deployment to senior police officers as operational needs arise.
Allocation of Personnel by District
- Ranchi: 600 home guards
- Jamshedpur: 500 home guards
- Hazaribagh: 500 home guards
- Giridih: 400 home guards
- Other districts—including Garhwa, Latehar, Khunti, Gumla, Chatra, Lohardaga, Simdega, Ramgarh, Koderma, Palamu, Dumka, Sahibganj and Seraikela‑Kharsawan—will receive forces proportionate to local demand.
This distribution is calibrated to match expected crowd densities and the logistical challenges of each region.
Youth Volunteer Teams Join the Effort
Alongside the home guards, specially trained youth volunteer squads will be stationed at pandals to help manage crowds and guide pilgrims through congested zones. Their presence is expected to relieve regular police units and improve overall crowd management.

The overarching goal of the administration is to ensure that Durga Puja proceeds without disruption, allowing worshippers to offer prayers to Goddess Durga in a secure and tranquil environment.
