Kurukshetra: After a frantic five‑day hunt, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage worker from Ismailabad was retrieved from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to Kirmich village on Tuesday.

Discovery and Confirmation

Local villagers noticed a motionless figure near a canal siphon and immediately informed nearby divers. Diver Pragat Singh headed the team that pulled the body from the water. Police matched the recovered remains with missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, confirming the identity as Dharmbir, locally known as Bablu.

Dharmbir’s father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived at the site, verified the identification, and handed the corpse over to authorities. The body was then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a post‑mortem autopsy.

Family’s Account of the Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home on the afternoon of October 1 and never returned. After searching nearby fields, roads, and water bodies, the family reported his absence to the Ismailabad police station.

His father told investigators that Dharmbir had been experiencing personal stress and recurring hand pain from his physically demanding job as a daily‑wage labourer.

The family also revealed that Dharmbir was the sole provider for three daughters, aged between 18 months and twelve years. He lived separately from his brothers, and no known conflicts or enemies were mentioned.

Police Investigation

KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar said officers arrived at the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following identification by Dharmbir’s relatives, the remains were dispatched for autopsy.

Investigators added that any further legal steps will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
