New Delhi – Authorities have taken a 56‑year‑old man into custody after a Class‑6 pupil was allegedly assaulted inside a small stationery outlet in Sadar Bazar. The suspect, identified as Maqsood, is now facing multiple criminal charges.
According to the investigating officers, the child stepped out of school to buy school‑supplies. While inside the shop, the accused is said to have bound her hands and feet, preventing her escape, and then proceeded to commit a sexual offense.
The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint, prompting the women’s police station to register a case that includes sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and provisions for wrongful confinement.
Maqsood was apprehended on Friday. Investigators are now gathering forensic evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available CCTV footage to substantiate the allegations.
Police have emphasized that the case will be pursued vigorously to ensure justice for the child and to deter similar crimes.
