Bettiah: State officials are expediting relief measures for those hit by the West Champaran floods, with a goal of depositing cash directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts before the Dussehra festivities begin.
Speedy Financial Support
During a press interaction at his home on Hospital Road, BJP MP Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal emphasized that every possible step is being taken to aid families and cultivators whose lives were upended by the recent deluge.
Crop‑Insurance Compensation for Farmers
Landowners whose fields were inundated will be compensated through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The state’s Agriculture Department is currently aggregating loss data to compute precise payouts. Jaiswal highlighted that the scheme, dormant in the district for almost ten years, has now been re‑activated.
Root Causes of the Flood Surge
The MP traced the calamity to a cascade of events that began with the breach of thirteen dams on Nepal’s Trishuli River roughly a month ago. Subsequent three days of heavy rainfall caused river levels in both Bihar and Nepal to rise sharply. The compromised dams also funneled a surge of water into the Valmikinagar barrage, putting additional strain on local flood‑control structures.
Embankment Repair Operations
After a leak was detected in a vulnerable embankment, the Water Resources Department’s secretary arrived on site for an immediate assessment. Within 24 hours, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary toured the affected villages, issued orders, and supervised the launch of repair work slated for completion by Saturday.
Review of Ongoing Development and Relief Efforts
The briefing also covered the status of several development projects in the area alongside the emergency response. Attendees included Nautan MLA Narayan Prasad, BJP district president Roopak Srivastava, local leaders Ravi Singh and Manoj Singh, and other party functionaries.
"Our priority is to ensure that relief reaches every affected household before Dussehra, and that farmers receive their rightful insurance payouts without delay," said MP Sanjay Jaiswal.
