New Delhi. In a midnight raid, Delhi police detained two individuals tied to a shooting incident that erupted at a house in the Bhajanpura area. Both detainees sustained leg injuries from police gunfire. Officers also seized three semi‑automatic pistols, eighteen cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle.

Who were the arrested men?

The suspects have been identified as 23‑year‑old Jasim, locally called “Aloo,” a resident of Welcome, and 23‑year‑old Kaif, who is known as “DJ.”

What triggered the confrontation?

Police reports state that when officers tried to intercept the duo, the men opened fire. Several rounds struck the bullet‑proof vests of the constables. The police returned fire, wounding both suspects and taking them into custody.

How the shooting was first reported

The episode began in the early hours of 2 October, around 2:43 a.m., in Gali No. 16 of Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda, under the jurisdiction of Bhajanpura police station. A resident on his balcony witnessed two youths arrive on a scooter, brandishing pistols, firing at him and into the air before speeding away.

The stray bullets broke the balcony’s glass railing and dented the exterior wall, though no one was hurt. A case has been lodged under sections relating to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.

Steps taken by investigators

A Special Staff team was mobilised to track the perpetrators. By analysing CCTV footage and receiving tips from locals, police learned that the pair planned to ride a motorcycle from Nanaksar to Usmanpur via Third Pushta Road.

Officers positioned along the suspected route spotted the two on an unregistered bike at roughly 2:45 a.m. When ordered to halt, the men allegedly opened fire, prompting the police response that resulted in their arrest.

Background of the accused

During the seizure, investigators recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition, and the motorcycle used in the episode. A background check on Jasim revealed an existing case under the Arms Act registered with the Special Cell, while Kaif appears to have no prior record.

Both individuals have reportedly admitted involvement in the balcony attack and say they were acting on orders from a figure known as Rashid, alias “Cablewala.” The inquiry now focuses on the motive behind the assault and whether other conspirators were involved.
