Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road accident in the Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, left the community reeling on Thursday night. At approximately 8:15 PM, an Alto car slipped from the Dwarch‑Seri stretch and tumbled into a gorge estimated to be 500 metres deep.

Accident details

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was traveling toward Durah when it suddenly veered off the narrow mountain road near Seri. The car plummeted into the abyss, killing both occupants instantly.

Rescue operation

Local residents, alerted to the crash, rushed to the site and joined the rescue effort alongside officials from the Nitthar police post. The steep, rugged terrain and the depth of the gorge made recovery extremely difficult.

Rescuers worked tirelessly from around 1 PM to 3 PM on Friday, using ropes and makeshift winches to haul the bodies up to the road. Both victims were then transported to the Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.

Victims identified

The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh, a resident of Shah in Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal, a resident of Dwarch in Durah Gram Panchayat. The Alto was completely wrecked in the impact.

DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities and stated that the precise cause of the crash is still under investigation.
