Karachi – In the early hours of Monday, a Hindu sanctuary located in the remote hamlet of Rathi, close to Nagarparkar in Sindh, was broken into and defaced. The temple’s caretaker found shattered idols the following morning and promptly alerted local officials.
Arrest of alleged perpetrator
Shiva Kaachi, the chairperson of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad NGO, confirmed that law enforcement has taken a man into custody whom they believe to be the main offender. No further details about the individual’s identity or the exact circumstances of his arrest have been released.
The temple’s place in a predominantly Hindu region
Although modest in scale, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of several small worship sites scattered across villages surrounding Nagarparkar, an area with a substantial Hindu population. These shrines act as focal points for prayer, festivals and community gatherings.
Ongoing investigation
Authorities are assessing the full extent of the destruction and are exploring the possibility that more individuals participated. The investigation remains active, with forensic teams collecting evidence and police interviewing local witnesses.
Parallel incidents in recent months
Earlier this year, the Kali Mata Temple in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a similar act of vandalism, sparking protests and road blockades by Pakistan’s Hindu community. These repeated assaults have reignited worries about the protection of minority religious sites in Sindh.
