Legal Fraternity Halts Proceedings at Rohini Courts
On Monday, lawyers at Delhi’s Rohini Courts staged a mass walk‑out, refusing to sit for any hearings. The Rohini Court Bar Association declared an outright boycott, pointing to the alleged assault on advocate Kamaldeep at the Mahendra Park police station as the trigger.
Alleged Attack Inside Mahendra Park Police Station
The dispute originates from a 29 September incident in which Kamaldeep claims he endured verbal harassment and physical aggression within the Mahendra Park precinct. The bar’s executive committee swiftly escalated the complaint to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the DCP of the North‑West district, and also informed the Principal District and Sessions Judge.
Bar Says Police Retracted Earlier Assurance
According to the association, police initially gave a verbal promise that the officers involved would be disciplined. Instead, lawyers say a case was lodged against Kamaldeep, and senior police officers failed to disclose this reversal to the bar’s executive committee, violating the trust placed in the original assurance.
Police Barred from Court Premises
In protest, the bar has prohibited all police personnel—irrespective of jurisdiction—from entering the Rohini Court complex, including the Nayab Court, for the entire day of 5 October.
Call for Unity Among Lawyers
The association appealed to its members to remain united during the boycott, stressing that the dignity, safety, and professional independence of the legal community must not be compromised. Any attempts to intimidate lawyers will be met with lawful resistance.
The standoff underscores an escalating clash between the Rohini Court Bar Association and police authorities over the handling of the September 29 episode. Further developments will be reported as the issue moves through the appropriate channels.
