New Punjab Congress Chief Pays Homage at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara
Chandigarh – Fresh from being sworn in as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pargat Singh spent Saturday at Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, bowing his head in prayer and contemplating the tasks that lie ahead.
Appealing for Unity and “Sarbat Da Bhala”
Addressing reporters after the visit, Singh urged Punjabis to remain united, invoking the timeless Sikh maxim Sarbat Da Bhala – the welfare of all. He highlighted that Punjab’s identity has always been rooted in communal harmony, a shared cultural fabric, and a collective sense of duty.
Refusing to Tolerate Party Factionalism
When queried about rumors of internal splits, Singh dismissed any notion of factionalism. He noted that “differences of opinion are natural in any political outfit,” but stressed that the Congress must function as a single, cohesive force. Positioning himself as a team‑player, he pledged to involve senior leaders in shaping the party’s future roadmap.
Sharp Critique of the AAP Administration
Singh did not shy away from targeting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, accusing the government of mismanaging public assets and the state’s finances. He described the current administration as a “sandcastle” that, in his view, will soon crumble.
Condemnation of Divisive Tactics by the BJP
The new Congress chief also leveled criticism at the Bharatiya Janata Party, branding its approach as polarising. Singh called for Punjab’s political conversation to focus on the state’s welfare and the aspirations of its people, rather than on inflammatory narratives.
Key Priorities for the New Leadership
Singh outlined his immediate agenda: spotlighting issues that matter to Punjab, strengthening the party’s organisational structure, and preserving the state’s tradition of social cohesion. His appointment follows the removal of Amarinder Singh and Raja Warring as state party heads, signalling a fresh chapter for Punjab Congress under a collaborative ethos.
