As the monsoon finally retreats, Nawanshahr is starting to feel the first sighs of autumn. The sun still dominates the sky, but the early hours and evenings are becoming noticeably cooler.
Nighttime Temperatures Inch Upward
Observations from the opening days of October indicate that the district’s minimum temperature has been lingering between 21 °C and 23 °C. On October 1 the low hovered around 21 °C, rose to 21.8 °C on the 2nd, and the next two days recorded values near 22.3 °C. By October 5 the night‑time reading was close to 22.9 °C. Although these numbers remain well above typical winter lows, they hint at a gentle shift toward cooler mornings and nights.
Daytime Heat Still Holds Firm
The modest dip in nocturnal chill has not yet translated into relief for daytime dwellers. Maximum temperatures in the first week of October have hovered between 33 °C and 35 °C, with strong solar radiation maintaining a high heat index. Residual moisture in the air adds a touch of discomfort, but the heat eases once the sun dips below the horizon.
Historical data show that September has been erratic in recent years: the month peaked at 36 °C in 2023, 35 °C in 2022, and 34 °C in 2021. This volatility underscores how rapidly the local climate can swing from one year to the next.
Scattered Showers on the Horizon
Meteorologists expect partly cloudy skies over the coming days, with isolated light rain showers and occasional thunderstorms in select pockets. A more noticeable cooling trend is projected for later in October, when daytime highs should start to fall and humidity gradually recedes.
Experts note that lingering post‑monsoon moisture continues to fuel the current humidity levels. Additionally, temperature fluctuations in the nearby hills often cascade down to the plains, shaping early‑morning and evening conditions.
Morning Walkers Feel the Difference
Residents have already begun to sense the change. Early‑morning joggers report a refreshing dip in temperature, and two‑wheeler commuters find the dawn commute noticeably milder. Despite the pleasant mornings, afternoons remain firmly entrenched in the heat belt.
Looking ahead, October’s progression promises a gradual easing of the heat. As temperatures settle toward seasonal norms and humidity thins, Nawanshahr can anticipate increasingly comfortable mornings and evenings in the weeks to come.
