Homs, Syria – A passenger bus traveling near the Masyaf Bridge in the western countryside of Homs was suddenly ambushed, leaving at least seven dead and four injured. The vehicle was carrying staff members of a local firm who were returning home after a full workday.
SANA, Syria’s state news agency, reported that the shooters remain unidentified. The wounded were rushed to nearby medical facilities, while security forces moved swiftly to cordon off the area.
Formal Probe Initiated
Authorities have opened an official investigation to determine who ordered the assault and why it was carried out. No organization or individual has claimed responsibility, and officials have not publicly named any suspects.
"We interpret this attack as an attempt to destabilise the region and erode public security," said Brigadier General Bassem Mohammad Shaaban, commander of the Homs Internal Security Forces.
Forensic teams are collecting evidence, and investigators are interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Workers Targeted on Their Way Home
Initial reports confirm the bus was transporting civilian employees back to their residences after completing their duties. Emergency responders transferred the casualties to hospitals across the Homs district for treatment.
Officials stressed that the investigation will continue until all details of the incident are clarified and those responsible are held accountable.
Enduring Security Challenges in Syria
The shooting occurs against a backdrop of persistent insecurity that has lingered for more than 13 years of conflict, even after the fall of Bashar al‑Assad’s government in December 2024. While authorities strive to stabilise the nation, isolated shootings and violent episodes continue to surface across several provinces.
