In a coordinated raid, the Crime Branch’s Sector‑30 team in Faridabad seized an eye‑watering 2,496 kg of firecracker‑manufacturing chemicals from a modest house in Mukesh Colony, Ballabhgarh. The haul, made up of roughly 2,296 kg of potassium nitrate and 200 kg of sulphur, led to the detention of a local resident identified as Puneet.

Anonymous Tip Sparks the Operation

Police received a confidential tip that a large quantity of explosive‑grade material was being hoarded in a residential neighbourhood. Acting on the information, officers moved swiftly, arrested Puneet, and swept the premises, uncovering the substantial stockpile.

Possible Hathras Connection

During early questioning, Puneet revealed that the chemicals had been shipped from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Investigators are now tracing the supply chain, focusing on chemical dealers in Hathras who may have facilitated the transfer.

Wider Network Under Investigation

Detectives are examining whether the material was intended for illegal firecracker production or formed part of a broader, organised operation. Although Puneet has no prior criminal record, authorities are canvassing the locality and reaching out to potential business contacts to map the full distribution network.

Safety Risks Highlighted

The find underscores the hazards of storing large amounts of volatile chemicals in densely populated areas. The seized substances have been secured by police, and the probe continues to determine their intended destination and identify any additional conspirators.

What Comes Next

Puneet remains in police custody for a three‑day remand, during which investigators will deepen their inquiries. The priority now is to locate the original source of the chemicals and to establish whether other individuals or firms were complicit in the illicit procurement.
