New Delhi. The Election Commission of India has released the timetable for the biennial polls that will fill 28 Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The schedule covers both graduate‑type and teachers’ constituencies. All voters will head to the polls on 23 October 2026, and the counting of ballots will take place on 27 October.
According to the notice, the formal election notification is due on 29 September, and aspirants may submit their nomination papers until 6 October. Polling hours are fixed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
These elections are triggered by the expiry of the current members’ terms. In Bihar, eight seats will become vacant in November; Karnataka will see four seats lapse the same month. Maharashtra has five seats, and Uttar Pradesh eleven seats, that will be up for election in December.
Maharashtra – Five Seats
The constituencies slated for voting are Aurangabad Graduates, Pune Graduates, Nagpur Graduates, Amravati Teachers and Pune Teachers.
Karnataka – Four Seats
Voters in South‑East Graduates, West Graduates, North‑East Teachers and Bengaluru Teachers will go to the ballot box.
Uttar Pradesh – Eleven Seats
The state’s schedule includes Lucknow Graduates, Varanasi Graduates, Agra Graduates, Meerut Graduates, Allahabad‑Jhansi Graduates, Lucknow Teachers, Varanasi Teachers, Agra Teachers, Meerut Teachers, Bareilly‑Moradabad Teachers and Gorakhpur‑Faizabad Teachers.
Bihar – Eight Seats
In Bihar, the poll will cover Patna Graduates, Darbhanga Graduates, Tirhut Graduates, Kosi Graduates, Patna Teachers, Darbhanga Teachers, Tirhut Teachers and Saran Teachers.
With the timetable now official, the Model Code of Conduct has been activated for all the affected constituencies.
