Overview of the incident

In the pre‑dawn hours of Thursday, personnel of the Border Security Force posted at the Rajoke Border Outpost in the Khalra sector of Tarn Taran observed a group attempting to cross the India‑Pakistan line of control. The encounter unfolded at roughly 12:35 a.m. and involved three to four individuals moving towards Indian territory.

How the clash unfolded

Night‑vision footage recorded the suspects advancing on the Indian side. BSF guards first issued verbal warnings; when the intruders persisted, the troops were forced to open fire. Two of the assailants were killed on the spot, while the third fled back across the border.

The bodies were recovered and placed under BSF custody. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, but early intelligence points to Pakistani nationality; the force has not released an official statement on citizenship. Pakistani Rangers have been informed of the development.

Post‑engagement sweep

Following the shooting, security agencies commenced an extensive search of the surrounding border stretch on Friday. Teams are methodically combing the terrain to determine whether any additional infiltrators managed to slip into Indian soil.

The sweep also aims to locate any weapons, narcotics or other contraband that might have been concealed in the area, with investigators probing possible links to cross‑border smuggling—a chronic issue in this corridor.

The Rajoke corridor has a long‑standing record of illicit trafficking, including drone‑borne drugs and arms. At present, investigators have found no concrete evidence that the two deceased individuals were part of an organised smuggling network.

Current investigation status

Forensic teams are working to confirm the identities of the slain suspects and to ascertain the precise motive behind the attempted infiltration. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry proceeds.
