At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, an unidentified group hurled bricks at the Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham Hindu temple in Richmond Heights, Ohio. The projectiles shattered multiple windows and left visible damage inside the sanctuary while priests and worshippers were present.

Law Enforcement and Federal Partners Examine the Incident

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the temple to reconstruct the attack and identify the culprits. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) confirmed that the video has been turned over to investigators and that the case has also been shared with the FBI and civil‑rights officials.

To date, no suspect has been publicly named and no arrests have been announced.

Community Leaders Urge a Prompt, Open‑Ended Probe

National Hindu groups, including the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), have called on authorities to act quickly, hold perpetrators accountable, and publicly condemn the assault. CoHNA specifically asked Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas and other local officials to denounce the vandalism and reassure the Hindu community of its safety.

While some observers suspect a hate‑motivated crime, law‑enforcement agencies have not yet confirmed a bias motive.

No Injuries Reported Despite the Chaos

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any physical injuries. The primary damage consists of broken windows and other property impairment, which temple staff continue to document.

HAF has urged officials to locate those responsible and issue a strong public statement against rhetoric that threatens Hindu or Indian‑American communities.

Historical Vandalism of Hindu Temples Cited

CoHNA referenced previous vandalism cases at Hindu temples in New York and California, noting that each incident occurred under different circumstances. Although these events raise concerns, they remain separate investigations and do not, on their own, prove a nationwide pattern.

The Richmond Heights case remains active as authorities continue to analyze video evidence and other leads to determine whether religious bias played a role.
