Rapid Growth and New Milestones

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, noting that the campus has already eclipsed its original 750‑bed plan and now runs with 776 beds. In a short span, it has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty departments, covering complex cardiac catheterisations, cutting‑edge radiotherapy, and advanced neurosurgical procedures.

Surge in Patient Footfall

The outpatient department (OPD) has logged more than 12 lakh consultations over the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. During the 2024‑25 financial year alone, OPD visits topped three lakh and diagnostic examinations exceeded ten lakh, reflecting growing public confidence in the institute’s capabilities.

Academic Progress and Leadership

AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation celebrated the inaugural graduating batch, a landmark moment for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who attended the ceremony, urged the new doctors to prioritize service to humanity and to extend quality care to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.

Expansion of Clinical Infrastructure

Beyond the rising bed count, the hospital now provides a comprehensive suite of high‑end services: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, full‑scale diagnostics, and a dedicated cancer care wing. Faculty and staff have been praised for achieving this growth at a speed that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years to attain.

Future Outlook

Minister Nadda expressed confidence that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with India’s premier AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centric care is set to cement its status as a leading hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
